Description
OverIT at a glance
OverIT is a global Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) company with a strong presence in North America and Europe.
We empower organizations in the power, utility, telco, and transportation industries to manage their mission-critical infrastructures efficiently and safely through cutting-edge Field Service Management software solutions.
At OverIT, we leverage advanced technologies like ML (Machine Learning), AR (Augmented Reality), IoT (Internet of Things), and GIS (Geographic Information System) to help ensure the infrastructures essential to our daily lives are always on.
If you want to be part of a top technology brand, join us!
What you’ll do
- Our tech stack includes Java, Spring Boot, Docker, Web (Angular), iOS, Android mobile applications. We use Claude as our AI coding augmentation tool.
- Hire, onboard and grow a team of engineers, our typical team size is 6-8 individuals. You run the interviews, and make sure new joiners are productive and connected to the team quickly.
- Hold regular 1:1s and give frequent, specific feedback. Help each person set goals, build a career path, and reach the next level, whether that is.
- Run fair performance reviews and calibrations, and address underperformance early and directly, with a clear plan to support improvement.
- Build a team culture based on ownership, psychological safety and open technical debate. Notice tension or disengagement early and deal with it.
- Develop future technical leaders inside your team, and share what you learn about management with other managers.
- Stay technically hands-on enough to take part in architecture and design reviews, read code critically, and challenge proposals with informed questions.
- Own the technical health of your team's area: architecture, code quality, reliability, security and technical debt. Make debt visible, size it, and get it prioritized alongside new features.
- Set and uphold engineering standards for code review, testing (unit, integration and end-to-end), CI/CD, observability and documentation, and help the team improve its development process and tooling over time. Ensure the team doesn’t reinvent the wheel.
- Work with architects and principal engineers so that your team's technical direction fits the wider platform, and favor industry standards over reinventing the wheel.
- Drive AI-native engineering practices in your team: agentic development tools, Agent Development Lifecycle (ADLC) practices, attention to token consumption, and a shared sense of when AI assistance helps and when it does not.
- Partner with product managers and designers to shape priorities and make trade-offs explicit. Day-to-day delivery is run by the team, you step in to unblock, escalate, or reset expectations when something is at risk.
- Use a small set of delivery signals (for example cycle time or deployment frequency) to spot problems and start conversations, not to manage individuals.
What you’ll need
- Several years of experience as a software engineer, with a record of shipping and operating production systems, followed by experience managing or technically leading an engineering team.
- Experience coaching other engineers and peers, both on the technical side as well as the line management aspects.
- A track record of growing people: engineers you have coached, promoted, or helped through a difficult period, and a clear view of how you give feedback.
- Strong technical judgment. You can follow and question an architecture discussion, review a design document, and explain trade-offs to engineers and to non-technical colleagues.
- Experience handling technical debt, code quality and testing strategy in a real codebase, including the conversations needed to get time for them.
- Experience hiring: structuring interviews, assessing technical and personal fit, and building a diverse and balanced team.
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted and agentic development tools, an awareness of their cost and limits, and an interest in helping a team adopt them well.
- Clear, honest communication, including across teams and with senior stakeholders.
- Professional working proficiency in English, both written and spoken.

- Contributions to open-source projects or other significant personal technical achievements.
- Training or certifications in engineering management, cloud, or software architecture.
