Description
Senior Systems Engineer – Space Systems | Full Time, Permanent Role
Location: Sarcedo, Vicenza, Italy (Hybrid)
Salary: Up to €55,000 per annum
NewSpace Technical is partnering with an innovative space technology company specialising in advanced space instruments, scientific research, defence and aerospace applications.
We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to play a key role in the development of complex spaceborne payload systems, supporting projects throughout their full lifecycle - from mission analysis and system definition through to integration, verification and validation.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced systems engineering professional to work on technically challenging space projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to translate mission requirements into robust, high-performance system solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate mission and customer requirements into system-level and payload performance specifications.
- Lead requirements engineering activities, including requirements definition, allocation, traceability, verification and validation.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams across system design, development, integration and qualification.
- Conduct system performance analyses and trade-off studies, considering mass, power, data budgets, radiometric performance and operational constraints.
- Support Assembly, Integration and Verification (AIV/AIT) activities, including system performance validation and acceptance testing.
- Develop and maintain systems engineering documentation, technical baselines and configuration control throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepare and lead major project reviews, including SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR and Acceptance Reviews.
- Identify, assess and mitigate technical risks using structured risk management processes.
- Manage technical non-conformances and support Non-Conformance Review Boards (NRBs), ensuring appropriate corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
- Contribute to technical proposals and competitive bids, working closely with engineering, programme management and business development teams.
About You
You will bring a strong systems engineering background and experience working on complex space or aerospace programmes. You will be comfortable managing technical requirements, coordinating stakeholders and supporting the delivery of high-performance systems from concept through to verification.
Essential experience and skills:
- Proven experience developing space systems, optical payloads, scientific instruments or complex aerospace systems.
- Experience with requirements management, allocation and traceability tools such as DOORS, Enterprise Architect or equivalent.
- Experience in system and payload integration, including performance verification and validation.
- A solid understanding of AIV/AIT processes and verification and validation methodologies.
- Experience with interface engineering across spacecraft, payload and ground segment domains.
- Ability to coordinate technical stakeholders, including customers, space agencies, prime contractors, suppliers and internal engineering teams.
- Knowledge of ECSS engineering standards, particularly the ECSS-E-ST-10, ECSS-Q and ECSS-M families.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams.
Desirable Qualifications
- A Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electronics Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- At least five years of systems engineering experience within the space sector.
- Fluency in both Italian and English, written and spoken.
