Description
Senior AI Engineer - Insurance | NRW (Hybrid) | €95-115k | Permanent | C1 German
AI Futures has been engaged to find a Senior AI Engineer for one of Europe’s leading insurance organisations - a company with the scale, data, and commercial mandate to build AI that genuinely changes how insurance is underwritten, serviced, and delivered.
The company
A major European insurance group operating across life, health, property, and commercial lines at scale. The AI function here is not a skunkworks experiment - it sits close to the core business, with real data, real stakeholders, and the expectation that the models it ships reach production and stay there. The company is investing heavily in moving from AI pilots to AI infrastructure, and this hire is part of that shift.
The role
You will build and deploy AI and ML systems that improve how the business prices risk, detects fraud, automates claims, and serves customers - working across the full engineering lifecycle from prototyping through to production. You will collaborate with actuaries, underwriters, data scientists, and product teams, and your job is to make sure that what gets designed actually gets shipped reliably.
What you’ll do
- Design, build, and deploy ML and AI models for insurance-specific applications - risk scoring, fraud detection, claims automation, churn prediction, customer segmentation, and pricing optimisation
- Develop and productionise LLM and Generative AI applications including RAG pipelines, document intelligence, and agentic workflows for underwriting and claims processes
- Build and maintain robust ML pipelines covering data ingestion, feature engineering, model training, evaluation, and deployment
- Integrate AI solutions with core insurance systems - policy administration, claims management, CRM, and document management platforms
- Implement monitoring, observability, and model governance frameworks to ensure reliability, fairness, and regulatory compliance in production
- Collaborate with actuarial and underwriting teams to translate domain expertise into model requirements and evaluation criteria
- Contribute to engineering standards and reusable patterns that accelerate the broader AI programme
What you’ll bring
- Production ML or AI engineering experience - you have shipped models that are running live, not just in notebooks
- Hands-on experience with Generative AI and LLMs: prompt engineering, RAG, document processing, and multi-step agentic workflow development
- Strong Python and ML engineering fundamentals: model training, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring at scale
- Cloud platform experience - AWS, Azure, or GCP; familiarity with managed ML services (SageMaker, Vertex AI, Azure ML) is an advantage
- Solid software engineering practice: APIs, CI/CD, testing, and observability
- Comfort working across technical and non-technical stakeholders - actuaries and underwriters included
Desirable
- Direct experience in insurance, financial services, or a similarly regulated industry - risk modelling, fraud detection, claims processing, or actuarial-adjacent ML
- Familiarity with insurance data: policy and claims structures, telematics, medical or health data, or financial risk datasets
- Experience with regulatory and compliance requirements for AI in financial services - model explainability, fairness, and audit trails
- Knowledge of actuarial concepts or willingness to develop it quickly
