Junior Data Engineer

Job Description: We are looking for a Junior Data Engineer to join our data team and help run and develop the rules-based processing that turns raw behavioral event data into structured, analysis-ready datasets. You'll learn to maintain existing processing rules and write new ones, support the build-out of our data pipelines, and help keep our data accurate as the apps and websites we measure change. This is a hands-on role with close mentoring, suited to someone early in their career who enjoys digging into messy data and wants to grow into a well-rounded data engineer. Responsibilities: •     Help maintain and run the rules that parse, classify and transform raw event data into structured datasets •     Develop and test new processing rules as new apps, websites and data sources are added •     Investigate when rules stop matching or output looks wrong (for example after an app or website update) and work out a fix •     Write test cases and checks to confirm rule changes behave as expected before they are released •     Support the build-out of data pipelines that ingest, process and store large volumes of event data •     Write and optimize SQL queries across our analytical databases •     Help monitor data quality, including volumes, completeness and consistency, and raise issues early •     Automate repetitive data tasks with scripts •     Document rules, pipelines and data definitions so others can understand and use them •     Work with researchers, data scientists and software engineers to understand their data needs •     Handle data responsibly, following our privacy and data protection practices Qualifications: •     A degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering or a related subject, or equivalent practical experience •     Good working knowledge of SQL, including joins, aggregations and window functions •     Experience with, or exposure to, analytical databases such as Amazon Athena, ClickHouse or Redshift •     Programming experience in Python or JavaScript/TypeScript •     Comfortable working with JSON and other semi-structured data, with an interest in data transformation languages such as JSONata or jq •     Basic familiarity with AWS (S3, Lambda, Glue) or another cloud platform •     Use of Git and version control •     A methodical approach to testing and debugging, and strong attention to detail •     Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining what you found and why it matters •    Curious, keen to learn new technologies and techniques, and willing to take ownership of your work Nice to have: •     Exposure to streaming data services such as Amazon Kinesis/Firehose or Kafka •     Awareness of data lake file and table formats such as Parquet or Apache Iceberg •     Experience with regular expressions and pattern matching •     An understanding of how mobile apps and web pages are structured (e.g. Android UI, HTML/DOM) •     Awareness of GDPR and good practice when handling personal data •     Exposure to CI/CD or infrastructure-as-code tools Why Join Qrious: This is your chance to be at the forefront of transforming behavioral data into strategic insights that empower some of the world’s leading brands.
