Senior Database & Cloud Data Platform Engineer

GemPool Recruitment is seeking a Senior Database & Cloud Data Platform Engineer on behalf of an international B2B data intelligence company. Sitting within a newly created New Products engineering group, you will oversee a high-throughput database landscape (SingleStore, PostgreSQL, Redis) and lead the evaluation, architectural design, and migration strategy from on-prem infrastructure to AWS. What You Will Do: - Drive data store evolution, query optimization, and capacity planning for SingleStore, PostgreSQL, and Redis clusters. - Evaluate AWS hosting pathways (managed vs. self-managed) and deliver cost, risk, and migration models. - Explore and recommend modern analytical data platforms (e.g., ClickHouse, Snowflake, Databricks, Apache Iceberg). - Architect end-to-end real-time data streaming pipelines and robust summary-table aggregations. - Design low-downtime database migration strategies using replication/CDC, cutover plans, and automated validation. - Establish database-as-code and automated schema migration practices (Flyway, Liquibase, Terraform). - Use agentic coding assistants (Claude Code / Codex) to analyze workloads, audit schemas, and draft infrastructure-as-code. What You Bring: - 7+ years as a Data Platform Engineer, DBA, or Database Engineer managing production environments. - Hands-on production experience with SingleStore (MemSQL) or related distributed MPP/SQL engines (e.g., ClickHouse, CockroachDB, Vitess). - Advanced PostgreSQL expertise (tuning, replication, partitioning, backup/recovery, major-version upgrades). - Proven track record executing large database migrations from on-prem to AWS, including cost modeling. - Scripting proficiency in Python and Bash, with Docker and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform or CloudFormation). - Practical experience applying agentic coding tools (Claude Code or Codex) to automate validation scripts, schema checks, and migration tasks. Nice to Have: - Exposure to SingleStore Pipelines or automated object storage loading patterns (MinIO/S3). - Hands-on experience with Lakehouse platforms (Apache Iceberg, Snowflake, Databricks). - Experience with Kubernetes database operators or FinOps/savings-plan modeling.
