Founding AI Engineer – LLMs & AI Agents

We are recruiting a Founding Engineer for a fast-growing AI startup building autonomous agents for recruitment. The platform uses AI to identify and engage passive candidates, qualify talent, support candidate conversations and match people with relevant opportunities. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who wants significant ownership at an early-stage company. You will work closely with the founding team and a small US-based team, building core product and infrastructure rather than maintaining a narrow part of an established platform. Your responsibilities - Build and own product features from initial concept through production deployment - Develop scalable, production-grade systems across the stack - Build AI agents and intelligent conversational workflows - Develop RAG, embeddings and vector-search solutions - Design matching systems connecting candidates with relevant opportunities - Build and improve data pipelines for candidate and recruitment data - Integrate LLM APIs into real production applications - Improve platform architecture, reliability and scalability - Ship quickly, monitor real-world performance and iterate based on user feedback - Make pragmatic technical decisions in a fast-moving startup environment Your profile - Around 2–4 years of strong software engineering experience - Proven experience shipping production systems and taking end-to-end ownership - Strong full-stack engineering capabilities - Hands-on experience with LLMs beyond basic prompting - Practical experience with technologies such as RAG, embeddings, vector search or AI agent architectures - Previous startup experience - Evidence of building products or systems from the ground up - Comfortable working with ambiguity and making independent technical decisions - Fluent English - Strong sense of ownership and interest in growing with an early-stage company Location This is an on-site position in Berlin. We are particularly interested in engineers already based in Germany or candidates who are genuinely willing to relocate to Berlin.
