Platform Engineer

Senior Backend / Platform Engineer For a fast-growing fintech startup in Amsterdam, we are looking for a Senior Backend / Platform Engineer who enjoys building reliable systems, improving developer experience and taking ownership of technical projects. You'll work on a live payments platform, helping build and improve the technical foundation that allows the engineering team to develop, deploy and operate software faster and more securely. This is a hands-on role combining backend development, cloud infrastructure, security and platform engineering. What will you be doing? - Develop and maintain backend services using TypeScript, PostgreSQL and Deno. - Build and improve CI/CD pipelines, deployment processes and development environments. - Develop internal tools and automated workflows that help engineers work more efficiently. - Build backend functionality, including integrations, notifications and messaging. - Improve monitoring, observability and incident response processes. - Take ownership of security fundamentals, including access control, secrets management and auditability. - Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate development and automate engineering workflows. What are we looking for? - Strong experience in backend engineering, ideally with TypeScript and PostgreSQL. - Proven experience with CI/CD, cloud infrastructure and production environments. - Experience taking ownership of deployments, monitoring and incident response. - A solid understanding of security principles and building reliable systems. - Familiarity with managed cloud services and infrastructure automation. - Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools. - A pragmatic, independent engineer who enjoys technical ownership and solving complex problems. Experience with Deno, edge functions, developer tooling or security-sensitive environments is a plus.
