Description
About Us
At Nextlane, we don’t just develop software solutions – we create the future of the automotive industry.
We are a company that combines advanced technology with a clear vision: simplifying and digitizing every step of the automotive customer journey, empowering manufacturers and dealerships to thrive in a constantly evolving market.
We believe in the value of every team member, offering opportunities for you to develop and contribute to meaningful solutions.
So… What does it mean to be a #Nextlaner?
- Be part of a growth-oriented culture.
- Collaborate with colleagues from all over the world.
- Believe in the Power of ideas and the diversity of thought.
- Be committed to provide an environment where you can learn, grow, and collaborate on projects that make a global impact.
Our success is measured not just by results, but also by the growth and satisfaction of those who are part of our company.
At Nextlane, you’ll have the opportunity to innovate, push boundaries, and work on solutions that are transforming the automotive world.
About The Role
Platform is the integration layer every Nextlane product connects through: the APIs, gateways and integration services that link dealers' management systems (DMS) with car makers (OEMs), partners and our cloud products.
As a Senior or Staff Software Engineer in Platform, you will design, build and run that layer - and help rebuild hundreds of OEM integrations on it, with AI doing much of the work under human review.
Your Mission
Make the platform something every team builds on, not around: stable and secure, one way in, and a new integration in weeks instead of months. This is a senior software engineering role first, with AI on top. You will write, review and ship code, own it in production, and make AI tools work on real, long-lived codebases - not demos. You will work with Platform Product, our architects, Developer Experience, QA, Security and the product teams that use the platform, across several European countries.
Your Responsibilities
As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for:
The integration layer
- Design, build and run the platform's APIs and integration services, behind one front door: our API gateway.
- Build OEM and partner integrations on our new integration platform - each one a reviewed recipe, not a project of its own - and move existing ones onto
it, domain by domain.
- Own what you build in production: monitoring, on-call, fixing what breaks.
Contracts and access
- Design versioned contracts for the core entities - customer and vehicle first, then workshop and parts - one shape, whatever the DMS.
- Apply one API policy - versioning, deprecation, error codes - so partners keep working when things change.
- Help build one sign-in and permission model: who may call what, for which dealer.
Stable and safe
- Add SLOs, alerts and contract tests to the top APIs; release in stages, with rollback.
- Build security in: no secrets in code, scans in every pipeline, vulnerabilities fixed on time.
- Lead incidents when needed; write the post-mortem and see its actions through.
AI In How We Build
- Make AI coding assistants and agents (Claude Code or similar) work on our codebases: repository instructions, conventions, architecture maps, tools.
- Grow our AI assembly line for integrations - design, build and test, deploy -with a person approving the contract and the release.
- Bring AI code review and AI-built tests into the pipeline, with our Developer Experience team.
- Work inside a product team when it needs it, pairing on its code, so the AI tools keep working after you move on.
- Keep AI governed and measured: what data goes where, human review of every change; adoption, lead time and change failure rate, reported honestly.
Shared knowledge and the bar
- Keep designs, runbooks and post-mortems open and AI-readable, so anyone can ask what broke last time and what fixed it.
- Review code and designs, coach engineers, write short guides.
- At Staff level: set technical direction beyond the team, with our architects; lead migrations other teams depend on; help design how AI agents use the
platform safely - identities, limits, audit.
Experience
What We're Looking For:
- 8+ years in software engineering, at Senior or Staff level.
- Built and run production APIs and integrations that other teams or partners depend on.
- Modernised long-lived software while keeping it running.
- Used AI coding assistants and agents on large, long-lived codebases, beyond demos.
Languages
- Fluent English (mandatory; interviews in English).
- French is a plus.
Technical Skills
- Strong in C#/.NET or Java.
- API and contract design - REST, versioning, backward compatibility, API gateways, OAuth2.
- Integration patterns and frameworks (Apache Camel or similar), messaging and events.
- Azure and AWS; containers and Kubernetes.
- CI/CD (GitHub Actions or similar), automated and contract testing, observability (OpenTelemetry or similar).
- LLM tooling - context engineering, agents, MCP, evaluation - and AI security: data leakage, prompt injection, secrets.
Interpersonal Skills
- Earns trust fast in a team they don't belong to.
- Humble about what AI can't do yet.
- At Staff level, sets direction others follow.
Communication
- Shows rather than tells.
- Clear in writing - designs, pull requests, short guides.
Nice to have
- Automotive, DMS or CRM software.
- Software installed at customer sites.
- Built developer tools or AI workflows other teams use.
- Retrieval over code and documents.
- Open-source contributions.
Our Recruitment Process
- 30-minute introductory call with our Talent Acquisition Specialist.
- Interview with the VP Engineering - Platform (hiring manager).
- Technical interview with our platform architect: pairing with AI tools on an unfamiliar codebase, and an API design discussion.
- Interview with a product team's engineering lead.
