Principal Electrical Engineer

URGENT REQUIREMENT! Principal Electrical Engineer – Data Centres Location: Ireland | Design Consultancy Hybrid working Salary: €105,000 - 135,000 plus up to 10% bonus, pension and healthcare An established engineering design consultancy is looking to appoint a Principal Electrical Engineer to support the delivery of major data centre and mission-critical projects across Ireland and Europe. This is an opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with a strong data centre background to take a leading role in electrical design, technical delivery and project management, while developing client relationships and supporting the wider engineering team. The Role: You will take technical ownership of electrical engineering packages across a range of data centre projects, leading design development from concept and feasibility through detailed design, construction and commissioning. Responsibilities will include:- - Leading the electrical design and delivery of major data centre projects. - Developing and reviewing electrical designs covering HV/MV/LV distribution, transformers, switchgear, UPS systems, generators and associated power infrastructure. - Preparing and reviewing technical calculations, load assessments, single-line diagrams, specifications and equipment schedules. - Managing electrical design packages, ensuring technical quality, programme and agreed project deliverables are achieved. - Coordinating multidisciplinary design teams, contractors, vendors and external consultants. - Providing technical guidance, mentoring and reviewing the work of junior engineers and design staff. - Managing client relationships, attending design meetings and representing the consultancy on technical matters. - Supporting project commercial management, including resource planning, scope control, budgets and additional services. - Providing technical support during construction, commissioning and project handover. Experience & Background The successful candidate will ideally bring: - A degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or equivalent. - Approximately 8–10+ years' electrical engineering design experience. - Strong, recent experience delivering electrical designs for data centres or other mission-critical facilities. - Experience with hyperscale, colocation or large-scale critical infrastructure projects. - A background within an engineering design or MEP consultancy. - Proven experience leading electrical design packages and managing project delivery. - Strong technical knowledge of HV/MV/LV systems, UPS, generators, switchgear and electrical resilience. - Experience with power system analysis software such as ETAP, SKM or equivalent. - Familiarity with relevant IEC, EN 50600 and Irish electrical standards. - Strong client-facing, communication and multidisciplinary coordination skills. Chartered Engineer status (CEng) through Engineers Ireland, CIBSE, IET or equivalent would be advantageous, although candidates working towards Chartership will also be considered.
