Description
Chief Technology Officer (CTO)
United Kingdom
Working Pattern: Hybrid – a mix of office and home working
About the Role
We are actively building diverse teams and welcome applications from everyone.
We are seeking an experienced, commercially minded Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to join a leading IT services and solutions provider.
This is a strategic, customer-facing role focused on building trusted relationships with senior business and technology leaders, understanding their strategic objectives and identifying opportunities where innovative IT solutions can support their business transformation.
The CTO will play a pivotal role in engaging with C-suite executives, senior decision-makers and budget holders across existing and prospective customers. By developing a deep understanding of their challenges, priorities and future plans, you will help shape customer requirements and position the business to deliver meaningful value.
Working closely with Sales, Account Management and Pre-Sales teams, you will provide strategic insight, support opportunity qualification and help identify the best route to winning and delivering major customer opportunities.
The ultimate objective is to win the customer by building credibility, trust and long-term strategic relationships that create sustainable commercial growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with Sales leadership to develop and implement strategies for building relationships with key C-suite stakeholders and senior budget holders across selected accounts.
- Support Account Managers and Business Development teams in qualifying opportunities and identifying the most appropriate IT services and solutions for customer requirements.
- Develop strategic account plans to identify new stakeholders, engagement opportunities and routes to market.
- Leverage professional networks, industry experience, market intelligence and targeted marketing to demonstrate the organisation’s capabilities and value proposition.
- Build a comprehensive understanding of customer objectives, business challenges, budgets, competitive positioning, risks and potential opportunities.
- Establish trusted relationships with senior decision-makers, acting as a strategic advisor rather than simply a technology salesperson.
- Engage with customers to understand their challenges, priorities and investment plans, helping shape requirements and influence opportunities at an early stage.
- Identify the appropriate point to introduce specialist Sales, Pre-Sales and technical teams to progress opportunities through to successful closure.
- Maintain and develop established relationships to identify future opportunities, account expansion and long-term growth potential.
- Assess opportunities objectively, providing insight into the organisation’s ability to win and recommending where to pursue, reshape or withdraw from opportunities.
- Provide feedback to internal teams on customer perceptions, market trends and the effectiveness of services and propositions.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, ensuring key conversations, relationship information, opportunity details and outcomes are captured and shared across the business.
Skills and Experience
- Strong active listening skills, with the ability to understand business challenges and translate them into commercial opportunities.
- Proven ability to establish, develop and maintain trusted relationships with senior stakeholders and C-suite executives.
- Excellent networking and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage confidently with both existing and new customers.
- In-depth knowledge of the IT services market and the challenges facing organisations across technology, digital transformation and business change.
- Strong commercial acumen and the ability to assess customer needs, opportunity viability, competitive positioning and propensity to buy.
- A strategic thinker who is professionally curious and committed to continually developing their market knowledge and customer engagement approach.
- Self-motivated, adaptable and confident in engaging with different customer personalities and seniority levels.
- The ability to work collaboratively with Sales, Account Management and technical teams to ensure opportunities are effectively qualified and progressed.
- Confidence to challenge constructively, influence internal and external discussions and make commercially sound recommendations.
- The judgement to recognise when an opportunity should be repositioned, paused or withdrawn.
- The ability to operate with authority and credibility while maintaining humility, professionalism and customer trust.
