Description

Overview We are recruiting a Chief Technology Officer to lead technology across the HIL group and to build the global platform that every Montu market will run on. The mandate is consolidation and delivery. Today each region maintains its own stack, its own roadmap and its own relationship with the central technology function. The decision has been taken to stop funding separate stacks and to make one platform available across every market. Turning that decision into a delivered, adopted reality is the job. The role is based in Dublin with HILE and carries accountability for HIL Ireland, HIL Australia, HIL UK and any future entity where technology sits. HILE was founded in November 2024 and is the group headquarters. HIL Australia was created in 2026 by separating technology out of Montu Australia, and HIL UK follows by the end of 2026 when the UK technology and product teams transfer in. The group is approximately 78 people today: 18 in Ireland of whom 15 are engineers, around 50 in Australia and around 10 in the UK, with the Australian product team due to move across before year end. You will have the autonomy to restructure the organisation. Engineering leadership in Australia, the UK and Ireland reports to you from day one, and the shape of the function beyond that is yours to determine. What Makes This Role Unusual A platform decision already made, and not yet delivered. The direction is agreed at the founder level. What is missing is the leadership to sequence it, resource it and hold markets to it. Genuine structural authority. Three engineering leaders across three countries report in, product is expected to follow, and you have an explicit mandate to redesign the organisation rather than inherit it. A founder who wants to step back, and a real commercial question attached. HIL is funded by the markets it serves, so defining what they buy and what it costs is part of the role. What You Will Walk Into We would rather be straight about the starting position. - Three engineering groups in Ireland, Australia and the UK, at different levels of maturity and not yet operating as one function - A capable platform built in Australia that has not yet been made available to other markets - Germany live on the platform with migration issues outstanding, and internal pressure to revert rather than fix forward - New Zealand growing and waiting on specific platform capability before it can adopt - An in-flight consolidation moving the UK engineering team into HIL, with contracts under review - Markets at different stages of adoption, holding different views on how and when consolidation should happen. The direction is set at the founder level. Building alignment behind it is part of this job rather than something that will be settled before you arrive. If you want a settled function with a mature operating model, this is not it. If that list reads as the reason to take the job, we should talk. Key Responsibilities Global Platform Strategy and Delivery - Own the eighteen month global platform vision and convert it into a sequenced, resourced and costed delivery plan that leadership and the markets can commit to publicly - Make the platform available across all markets and retire duplicate regional stacks, including the migration sequence for Germany, New Zealand and the UK - Set and hold fixed scopes, dates and resourcing so markets plan against technology commitments rather than around them, and take the difficult architectural calls including where to fix forward rather than build bespoke Operating Model and Engagement - Design the operating model across core platform build, market migration, innovation, day-to-day run and market-employed teams, with clear ownership and funding for each - Define how global teams and regional markets work together across time zones, including the local technical capability each market needs so no market is blocked waiting on another - Move the relationship with markets from ad-hoc requests to scoped, funded deliverables with transparent cost and committed dates, while insulating core delivery from local escalation Organisation and Leadership - Lead technology across the HIL group, with engineering leadership in Australia, the UK and Ireland reporting in, and product expected to follow - Restructure the organisation as required, including how global and market-based teams are composed and where capability should sit - Complete the in-flight consolidation of market engineering teams into HIL, and raise engineering standards and delivery discipline consistently across all three locations Commercial and Stakeholder Leadership - Own the HIL cost base, capacity planning and resource allocation across entities, and the value case for the markets that fund it, including how innovation work is budgeted - Build alignment across market leadership on the platform strategy and hold the direction steady while that is worked through, making trade-offs explicit rather than letting them resurface as escalations - Work closely with a technically engaged founder who has already committed to the platform, and take ownership of it so that technology decisions no longer need to sit with him - Ensure technology governance, security, data protection and regulatory obligations are met across every jurisdiction in which the group operates Ideal Candidate Profile Experience - Has consolidated multiple regional or business-unit technology stacks onto a single platform and seen it adopted, not only proposed or started it - Has led engineering across multiple countries and significantly separated time zones, ideally including both Europe and Asia Pacific - Has delivered a strategy that senior stakeholders actively disagreed about, and can describe how that disagreement was managed rather than avoided - CTO, VP Engineering or equivalent in a multi-entity business of comparable complexity, with experience of an internal platform that regional businesses consume and fund - Has restructured an engineering organisation, including difficult changes, and can describe what they got wrong - Comfortable in regulated or clinically sensitive environments, and has reported to a technically engaged founder or owner. Healthcare, pharmacy, marketplace or direct-to-consumer platform experience is an advantage Capabilities - Politically literate without being political. Able to carry a direction that is not yet universally supported, without either caving to the loudest market or steamrolling it - Able to hold a technical or architectural position under commercial pressure, and to change it on evidence rather than on seniority - Credible with engineers and with commercial leadership alike, including where a central function has to earn its place - Decisive on sequencing, willing to say no to work that does not serve the platform, and willing to travel and work across Irish, UK and Australian hours
