ABOUT US
Pliant is a modular B2B payments platform that combines commercial card issuing, payment accounts, FX, and spend management in one system, adapting to existing setups rather than requiring customers to replace them.
Businesses across industries such as travel, e-commerce, and insurance use Pliant to manage complex payment workflows with cards, backed by credit lines Pliant underwrites itself.
Fintechs and software platforms embed Pliant's payment infrastructure into their own products, from API-based Cards-as-a-Service to fully white-label solutions. Banks use Pliant's Card & Spend OS, the customer-facing interface, on their own infrastructure to run card programs.
Founded in 2020 and headquartered in Berlin, Pliant serves 5,000+ businesses and 40+ partners across Europe and the United States. A principal member of Visa and Mastercard, Pliant issues commercial cards in 13 currencies across 32 countries, under its own European e-money license and with licensed partners in the UK and US.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Pliant's tech organisation has more than 100 people and is moving to a shared agentic framework: one way to take work from idea to production with AI agents, with clear human decisions and automated checks. We are hiring an Agentic Tooling Engineer (m/f/d) to join the Office of the CTO, reporting directly to the CTO and working closely with the Developer Experience team. You will own the shared infrastructure all agentic tooling depends on and help make the framework reliable, measurable, and easy to adopt. This is not a prompt engineering role. The framework is an internal product with versions, evals, and users.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Build and maintain the shared tooling of the framework: distribution and installation across agent tools, shared skills and agents, lints, eval runners, and the interfaces between harnesses.
- Support team members who build and maintain their own agentic tooling (harnesses, skills, agents) in line with the requirements of the framework, and help good ideas move across tools.
- Build evals and certification so that a team can prove a harness change is better before it ships.
- Move stable, rule-based steps out of prompts into platform checks that run for every author and every tool, together with Developer Experience and the other Platform Infrastructure teams.
- Run the feedback loops: collect friction from real use, fix the cause, and add a test so the failure does not return.
- Drive adoption across the tech organisation: pair with teams, train people, and measure delivery outcomes.
- Suggest and implement improvements to the framework, and help define new processes and agents on top of it.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- Deep, daily hands-on experience with a wide range of agentic tools (such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf, Aider, Devin, and CodeRabbit) and with the infrastructure that agents run on. You know where each one is strong and where it fails.
- Agentic tooling you built that other engineers use: skills, plugins, hooks, subagents, MCP servers, or custom agents.
- Experience with LLM evaluation and context engineering: evals for non-deterministic systems, reading failure traces, and understanding how the size, freshness, and consistency of context change what an agent does.
- 7+ years of software engineering on production systems, including developer tooling or an internal platform with real users. At Staff level, you have also set technical direction across several teams.
- Strong system design and a verification mindset: you know which controls must be deterministic and which can stay with a model.
- Strong Python, git, and GitHub (Actions, rulesets, CODEOWNERS); you read Java and Kotlin with ease.
- Precise technical writing and the ability to change how other engineers work without authority over them.
- A plus if you have experience in a regulated environment such as payments or banking, a security engineering background, or an open-source project you maintained.
