Description

Founded on Empathy, Fuelled by Impact At ParkBee, our mission is to give space back to the cities by creating a seamless experience for drivers with an interconnected European parking network. Our philosophy is to build distinctive products and services that enhance existing resources without generating new ones, all nurtured by an enduring empathy for drivers and partners. Joining ParkBee means you'll be part of a team that's driving change and making a difference in the world. Role Overview We're looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join UrbanEase, our B2B side. This is a senior individual contributor role: you'll be the technical expert and architect for UrbanEase, while still spending a real part of your week in the code. You'll own the technical direction of our platform: how it's structured, how it scales, how it fails and how it evolves. You'll turn the needs of the business, from product and commercial to operations, into a technical strategy, guide engineers through the hardest design decisions, and make sure what we build today is something we're still glad to maintain long after it ships. You lead through expertise, clear reasoning and good reviews, not through a reporting line. You'll thrive here if you have 10+ years of building software and you're the person others come to when a problem is complex, ambiguous or cuts across systems. You enjoy untangling distributed systems, you build with AI rather than just use it, and you weigh user and business impact as seriously as technical elegance. We're a small, lean team, so your work will be visible and your decisions will matter. What You’ll Be Doing - Own the architecture standards and technical direction for UrbanEase, so our systems stay resilient, observable, scalable, secure and maintainable. - Get involved early in initiatives, so technical risks, dependencies and the tech debt worth addressing shape the plan rather than surface halfway through. - Stay hands-on: drive the most complex, foundational or high-risk work yourself, including the software that connects our platform to the hardware in our garages, and dig into production issues when they're hard. - Review significant architectural changes and mentor engineers across our squads through reviews, tech meetups and pairing on hard problems. - Drive AI-enhanced and AI-native development, both in the product and in how we work. - Collaborate with our B2C side, data team, platform team, commercial, operations and customer support to ship the best possible solution, not just the first one that works. What You Bring 10+ years of professional software development experience, including extensive hands-on experience with C# and .NET - Technical breadth beyond a single stack: you're comfortable working across languages and technologies, and you choose the right tool for the problem rather than defaulting to the one you know best - A genuine tech enthusiast with a strong interest in hardware and IoT: our platform connects to physical devices in real garages, and you're the kind of engineer who finds that exciting rather than a complication - Experience acting as an architect or technical authority across multiple teams while remaining hands-on - Deep experience designing and evolving distributed systems, including event-driven architectures with message queues like RabbitMQ, and a solid grasp of failure modes, consistency and scaling trade-offs - Experience applying Domain-Driven Design in complex domains, and guiding teams in doing so - Experience evolving systems that are already live: large refactors, migrations, breaking things apart safely - Strong experience with a major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, GCP, or similar), CI/CD and infrastructure as code - Experience with monitoring and observability tooling (we use Datadog, but any equivalent works) - Strong experience with SQL or NoSQL databases - A security and privacy-by-design mindset - A testing mindset beyond unit tests, such as integration and performance testing - A track record of setting technical standards that teams actually adopt, through written designs and reviews - You lead through influence rather than authority, and you mentor through every technical touchpoint: code and design reviews, tech meetups you drive, and the day-to-day conversations where engineers work through hard problems - Active, daily use of AI in your own development work — bonus points if you've built AI-native tooling - A product engineering mindset: you weigh user and business impact, not just code - Sound judgement in ambiguous situations, and the ability to explain trade-offs clearly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders - A natural fit with our culture — bold, results-driven, and up for it even when things get messy - A category B driving licence is a bonus What You'll Receive We believe a career as a Principal Software Engineer at our company offers exponential growth and learning through an environment that promotes high ownership, accountability, and impact at every level. In addition, we offer a competitive reward package, including: - Attractive salary dependent on experience - An annual allowance of €1,500 for learning and growth in your role - An initial contract of 12 months to be extended by mutual agreement - Numerous growth and development initiatives, training and projects - Access to professional mental health support with OpenUp, ensuring you're supported both at work and in life - 25 days holiday plus additional leave schemes - Daily fresh lunch in the office (we're primarily an in-person company with home working flexibility) - Easy commute with an NS business card, mileage reimbursement, and access to shared cars when needed - A generous employer pension scheme and additional long term performance based incentives linked to the success of ParkBee and your contribution. If you are ready to make a significant impact in the role of Principal Software Engineer, we'd love to hear from you!
