Employee Relations and Case Management
- Manage a varied and complex end-to-end caseload across performance, probation, absence, grievances and disciplinaries.
- Provide clear, practical advice that balances employee experience, commercial needs, employment law and organisational risk.
- Build trusted relationships with managers, helping them address concerns early and confidently challenging where needed to achieve fair and consistent outcomes.
- Respond to sensitive employee and manager concerns with sound judgement, discretion and professionalism, ensuring issues are resolved or escalated appropriately.
- Maintain accurate and timely case documentation, delivering a consistently high standard of support across competing priorities.
Employee Experience and Engagement
- Partner with managers, leaders, and People colleagues to create an environment where employees feel heard, valued and supported.
- Use employee feedback, case themes and engagement insights to identify emerging concerns and opportunities to improve the employee experience.
- Support feedback channels and targeted engagement activity, ensuring themes are followed through and actions are clearly communicated.
- Coach managers on the behaviours and everyday practices that influence engagement, performance and retention.
Root-Cause Analysis and Process Improvement
- Use case data, employee feedback and people trends to identify hotspots and underlying factors, such as onboarding, management capability or gaps in existing processes.
- Turn insights into practical interventions that reduce avoidable cases and improve employee and manager experiences.
- Recommend continuous improvements to People policies, guidance and processes, helping us deliver support with greater consistency and efficiency.
- Identify recurring employee or manager questions and improve the guidance, tools and self-service resources available to them.
Manager Capability and Coaching
- Coach and upskill managers through sensitive people matters, helping them build the confidence and judgement to handle issues effectively.
- Deliver practical sessions on employee relations policies, UK employment legislation and effective people management.
- Guide managers towards the right People tools and resources, encouraging greater self-sufficiency while remaining available for complex or higher-risk situations.
- Communicate complex processes and decisions clearly to a range of audiences, adapting your approach to the situation and the people involved.
People Partnering and Strategic Support
- Partner with leaders across our Merchant organisation, building a strong understanding of their teams, priorities and people challenges.
- Support core People processes, including performance calibrations, engagement activity and organisational change.
- Use data and people insights to support leadership discussions and inform practical, evidence-based decisions.
- Contribute to targeted UKI People projects and work collaboratively across the wider People team to deliver meaningful improvements.
What You'll Need to Thrive
Essential
- Significant experience managing complex end-to-end employee relations cases within a fast-paced environment, backed by up-to-date knowledge of UK employment law.
- Strong advisory and coaching capability, with a proven ability to constructively challenge managers and balance commercial risk with employee experience.
- Sound judgement and the confidence to navigate sensitive or ambiguous situations with limited direction.
- An analytical mindset, with experience using case data, employee feedback and people trends to identify root causes and deliver proactive HR solutions.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to maintain accurate documentation, meet deadlines and deliver consistently across multiple priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex or sensitive information clearly to a range of audiences.
- A high level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential employee information.
- A collaborative and adaptable approach, with experience building trusted partnerships across teams and influencing without direct authority.
- Confidence using HR systems and digital tools to manage work, identify insights and improve the employee and manager experience.
