Engineering Manager – Backend Location: Enschede, Overijssel, Netherlands Work arrangement: Not specified About the Role An Engineering Manager is sought to lead and develop a cross-functional team of 6–9 engineers responsible for order issue resolution products. These products help customers resolve missing items, late or undelivered orders, and payment disputes while supporting fair outcomes and strong partner relationships. The role combines people leadership, technical decision-making, roadmap ownership, and end-to-end software delivery in an Agile environment. Key Responsibilities - Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 6–9 software engineers through coaching, performance reviews, and career development. - Recruit, onboard, and retain engineering talent while fostering an inclusive, high-performing team culture. - Partner with Product Managers to define technical roadmaps and prioritise work aligned with business goals. - Oversee Agile delivery processes and ensure high-quality software is delivered efficiently. - Own engineering work end-to-end, from requirements gathering and design through deployment and production support. - Collaborate with Product, Operations, Customer Care, and neighbouring engineering teams. - Improve engineering practices, workflows, architecture, and team effectiveness. - Communicate technical decisions and delivery progress clearly to stakeholders and senior leaders. - Explore emerging technologies and practical AI applications to improve engineering productivity. Required Qualifications - Previous experience managing people and leading cross-functional software engineering teams. - Strong understanding of software development lifecycles and a track record of delivering high-quality software. - Experience working in Agile environments, including Scrum or Kanban. - Strong problem-solving, business judgment, and stakeholder communication skills. - Ability to influence technical decisions, challenge assumptions, and align engineering priorities with business objectives. - Previous hands-on experience as a backend, full-stack, or mobile software engineer. Preferred Qualifications - Experience with .NET/C# or Java. - Familiarity with AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or similar cloud platforms. - Understanding of AI tools and approaches that can improve engineering productivity.
