Director of Operations – Transportation & Logistics Location: Remote – United States (Nationwide) Job Type: Full-Time Work Arrangement: 100% Remote Compensation: Competitive, commensurate with experience About the Opportunity An established and growing third-party logistics (3PL) organization is seeking an experienced Director of Operations to lead and oversee domestic and international transportation and logistics operations. This fully remote leadership opportunity is ideal for a professional with a strong background in project cargo, freight forwarding, multimodal transportation, and operational management. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of directly leading teams, developing employees, managing performance, and ensuring accountability for operational results. Key Responsibilities - Provide strategic leadership and oversight of transportation, freight forwarding, and project logistics operations. - Directly manage, mentor, and develop operations and project management teams. - Establish performance expectations, provide coaching, conduct performance evaluations, and maintain team accountability. - Oversee complex domestic and international logistics projects. - Develop and implement operational standards, procedures, and performance metrics. - Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and increase profitability. - Collaborate with sourcing, sales, finance, and executive leadership to support business objectives. - Monitor project performance, financial results, customer satisfaction, and operational risks. - Ensure compliance with transportation regulations and contractual requirements. - Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, carriers, and vendors. - Lead continuous improvement initiatives across the organization. Required Qualifications - 7–10+ years of progressive experience in transportation, logistics, freight forwarding, or third-party logistics. - Proven experience directly supervising and leading teams, including employee development, performance management, coaching, and accountability. - Demonstrated success in building and managing high-performing operational teams. - Previous experience in a senior operations leadership or management role. - Strong knowledge of project cargo and multimodal transportation. - Experience managing complex logistics projects and remote teams. - Demonstrated ability to improve operational performance, financial results, and customer satisfaction. - Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, and strategic decision-making skills. - Proficiency in transportation management systems and Microsoft Office. - Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship. Preferred Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. - Experience overseeing multiple operational functions within a third-party logistics organization. - Experience developing and implementing operational processes and performance improvement initiatives.
