Description

Cloud / Platform Engineer (Mid/Senior) | AWS & Kubernetes £65,000 to £85,000 | Predominantly Remote | UK I'm working closely with a highly ambitious, well funded technology business developing sophisticated software to solve complex, real world challenges. Operating at the intersection of advanced technology, data and intelligence, the company is building products that help organisations make better decisions in demanding, high stakes environments. Having recently secured further investment and with strong commercial momentum, the business is entering an exciting phase of growth. Its engineering team has expanded significantly, and there's now an opportunity for a talented Cloud / Platform Engineer to play an important role in the continued development of its infrastructure and platform capability. The team is open to engineers from midlevel through to senior, with the scope of the position and salary reflecting the experience and capability of the individual. This isn't a business building technology in search of a problem. Its products are already being used by customers, with real world requirements helping shape the engineering roadmap. The opportunity You'll join a talented, collaborative engineering team responsible for developing and operating the cloud infrastructure underpinning a sophisticated software platform. The business currently operates primarily within AWS, using technologies including ECS, CloudFormation and GitHub Actions. As its products and customer base continue to grow, the team is looking to strengthen its existing cloud infrastructure capability while introducing a new Kubernetes deployment environment. This creates an interesting combination of established platform engineering and new infrastructure development. You'll work closely with experienced software engineers and architects, contributing to the design, implementation and ongoing evolution of the platform. In particular, you'll help shape and deliver the Kubernetes environment, potentially including the migration and adaptation of existing services, while supporting the reliability, security and scalability of the wider AWS infrastructure. It's a hands on position offering genuine technical ownership, variety and the opportunity to influence how the platform develops as the business scales. What we're looking for - Strong commercial experience designing, deploying and maintaining production AWS infrastructure. - At least two years of hands on commercial Kubernetes experience, ideally three or more, including meaningful involvement in deploying, configuring, operating or troubleshooting Kubernetes environments. - Experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation. - Practical experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation, ideally with GitHub Actions or similar tooling. - Strong understanding of containers and container orchestration, including Docker, ECS and/or EKS. - Knowledge of cloud networking, security, monitoring, reliability and production infrastructure operations. - A collaborative, pragmatic engineer who enjoys taking ownership and solving technical challenges. Experience with AWS EKS, GitOps tooling such as Argo CD or Flux, and scripting with Python or Bash would be particularly relevant. You don't need to have worked with every technology listed. However, strong AWS infrastructure engineering and meaningful hands on Kubernetes experience are essential. We're particularly interested in engineers who have been directly involved in building and operating cloud platforms, rather than solely consuming infrastructure managed by other teams. Why consider it? There are plenty of opportunities to maintain cloud infrastructure. Far fewer offer the chance to help shape how a growing technology business develops and scales its platform, while working on products with genuine real world applications. This business offers: - Interesting engineering challenges: A combination of established AWS infrastructure, evolving platform requirements and the opportunity to help develop a new Kubernetes environment. - Real commercial traction: A growing customer base, further investment and an engineering roadmap shaped by genuine customer needs. - Technical ownership: The opportunity to influence infrastructure architecture, automation, reliability and the future direction of the platform. - A collaborative engineering culture: Work alongside experienced engineers and architects who value technical quality, autonomy and practical problem solving. - Flexibility: Predominantly remote working, with the engineering team coming together near Oxford for approximately three consecutive days every six to eight weeks. Travel expenses are covered. Salary: £65,000 to £85,000, depending on experience. If you're an AWS focused Cloud or Platform Engineer with strong Kubernetes experience who enjoys solving interesting technical challenges and wants to help shape a growing engineering environment, I'd welcome a conversation. Applicants must already be based in the UK and have the correct visa in place. No sponsorship is available.
