Description

Do you like owning a system end-to-end, from the Kubernetes cluster to the code that runs on it? Are you drawn to energy, real hardware, and systems that matter? Would you rather build the tooling than wait for someone else to? If this sounds like you, apply today! Company Description: We are a Swiss scale-up building software that turns thousands of distributed energy assets, such as solar plants, batteries and EV chargers, into virtual power plants that trade flexibility on European electricity markets. We work with global innovators like Axpo, Amag, and Huawei, as well as major utilities in Switzerland, Italy, Austria, and Spain. Teams like Hive Power are driving the green energy revolution. Will you be a part of it? This is a new role. So far, the engineering team has shared platform health across everything else they build. As the customer base grows we want someone dedicated to it: an engineer who owns system health, alerting and internal tooling, and who moves us from reacting to problems to preventing them. This is an internal, infrastructure-facing role rather than a customer-facing one. You would take that work on, and just as importantly, shape how it gets done. Must-have qualities - Ownership of the health and reliability of a production platform built on Kubernetes, including its databases, messaging layer and the services running on it - Ability to design, tune and maintain monitoring and alerting so that issues are detected early and alerts remain clear and actionable - Strong coding skills, applied to resolving root causes in the codebase rather than applying temporary workarounds - Experience building internal tooling and automation: system health KPIs, dashboards, runbooks and automated remediation of recurring issues - Autonomy in investigating unfamiliar systems: reading code and logs, forming hypotheses and verifying them with limited guidance - 4-6 years of experience as a software, platform, SRE or DevOps engineer, including time in a startup or a similarly fast-paced environment - Solid fundamentals: relational databases, networking basics and fluency in Python. - Hands-on experience deploying, operating and troubleshooting workloads on Kubernetes - Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools, such as Claude, as part of your everyday workflow, combined with sound independent judgement - Excellent written English Nice-to-have qualities - Familiarity with observability stacks such as Grafana, Prometheus, Loki or similar, and with designing alerts people actually act on - Infrastructure as code and CI/CD, Helm, GitHub Actions or equivalents - Familiarity with industrial and energy protocols such as Modbus, or MQTT, or with high-volume telemetry ingestion in general - Previous on-call or incident response experience Job conditions - Competitive compensation, including stock options - Flexible job location (Lugano, hybrid, or remote from anywhere in Europe) - Work for good: we are a European Commission-supported startup with a high impact on climate change - An incredibly dedicated, experienced, diverse and international team - A great culture that promotes personal development, team-building, and wellbeing - Real ownership: this is a new role, and the tooling and processes you inherit are the ones you write - Occasional travel for team gatherings -
