About The Department
Our direct team is based in the USA. The team supports batch systems for FADB, our funds accounting database, and for GPW, the downstream system that reports product performance. The immediate team is currently three full-time employees.
A Junior DevOps Engineer helps build and run the pipelines, environments and monitoring that let Franklin Templeton's engineering teams ship software safely and often. This is an early-career role with strong support for learning and growth.
You will work alongside experienced engineers to automate builds and deployments, support containerized applications and Linux EC2 workloads on AWS, and keep services healthy. Your work gives development teams repeatable, reliable releases.
Core Responsibilities
How you will add value
- You will maintain and improve GitLab CI/CD pipelines so changes are built, tested and deployed consistently.
- You will help to support containerized applications on ECS Fargate, Linux EC2 workloads, and AWS Lambda and S3-based workflows, and help diagnose environment-specific issues.
- You will set up and maintain monitoring, logging and alerts, and assist with incident investigation.
Strategic Responsibilities
- You will write scripts and automation that remove repetitive manual work.
- You will apply secure practices for secrets, access and configuration across development, testing and production.
Team & Collaboration
- You will partner with developers to make releases smoother and repeatable.
- You will document processes, configurations and fixes, and participate in cutover and implementation activities.
What Will Help You Be Successful In This Role
1-4 years of Experience, Education & Certifications
- Uses AI assistants as a natural part of their development workflow: for writing code, debugging, writing tests, generating documentation, and exploring unfamiliar domains.
- Decomposes a task into parts, translates those parts into effective prompts, and iterates on those prompts until the task is complete.
- Treats AI-generated outputs as drafts, not final, and refines them before incorporating.
- Actively explores new AI tools, techniques, and capabilities.
Technical Environment
- Core stack: GitLab CI/CD, AWS (Lambda, S3, EC2 and ECS Fargate), Linux, containers, and Python scripting.
- Operating environment: AWS cloud, with some workloads on Linux EC2 and some container-based (ECS Fargate).
- Workflow: GitLab CI/CD pipelines, Git version control, AWS Lambda workflows, [ticketing and SDLC to add].
- Quality and reliability: monitoring, logging and alerting, and incident support.
Technical And Soft Skills
- Foundational knowledge of CI/CD concepts and a version control workflow such as Git, ideally with GitLab.
- Basic familiarity with containers and a cloud platform, ideally AWS, through coursework, projects or work experience.
- Scripting skills in Python, and comfort working on the Linux command line.
- Understanding of core operating system, networking and web application concepts.
- Methodical troubleshooting: you form a hypothesis, test it, and confirm the cause before making changes.
- Clear communication, effective teamwork, and a willingness to learn from feedback.
- Exposure to infrastructure as code or configuration management tools would be a plus.
- Familiarity with basic service health metrics such as latency, error rate and availability would be a plus.
- Hands-on projects, internships or certifications in DevOps, cloud (especially AWS) or systems administration would be a plus.
- Interest in applying AI to operations work would be a plus.
