Description
The Pepperstone story started in 2010. We know what it's like to trade the world's markets. Our team describes us as a place for the curious and the driven, and we like to do things a little differently; as a transformative global fintech we're digital, nimble, connected and united in our vision to create a better way to trade.
We thrive on progress - for our clients and for ourselves. Our organisational culture is ever-evolving, vibrant, diverse, global and results focused.
You'll find our 700+ team currently across 12 locations and 9 time zones.
The Role
Our technology team thrives on inclusivity and collaboration, believing that diverse perspectives lead to great solutions. We foster a culture that champions individual growth, professional development, and work-life harmony. We're invested in your success and dedicated to supporting you every step of the way. We encourage our team to bring challenge thinking and fresh ideas to the table and our Agile approach empowers us to focus on outcomes. When we hire someone it's because they bring the skills, attitude and experience we're looking for....so we let you do what you're best at! Join us and be part of a community that's passionate about harnessing technology's potential to drive market leading solutions for our clients. Elevate your career in an environment where your ideas matter, your growth is nurtured, and your potential is limitless.
Our clients in more than 160 countries compare Pepperstone's trading app, web trader and client area with the best consumer and fintech products they use every day. We want to set that bar higher. You'll be the most senior hands-on engineer across our client-facing products, reporting directly to the CTO and providing senior technical leadership while remaining deeply hands-on.
As our Senior Principal Engineer - Product, your key responsibilities include but may not be limited to:
- Shape our technical direction: Define the multi-year architecture for our client-facing products, including our trading platform, WebTrader, mobile apps, Client Area, payments and websites. You'll help teams navigate complex technical trade-offs and align around a clear direction
- Stay hands-on with our toughest engineering challenges: Work directly on our most critical systems, writing production code and prototyping new approaches. You'll take the lead on complex challenges across performance, reliability, large-scale migrations and systemic quality
- Lead and shape AI-native engineering: Use AI coding and agent tools in your day-to-day work and help establish the patterns, workflows and guardrails that enable our product teams to do the same. You'll also help shape AI-powered features that deliver meaningful value for our clients
- Raise the engineering bar: Help set standards across architecture, APIs, front-end, mobile, testing, observability and continuous delivery, enabling our teams to deliver with greater speed, quality and confidence
- Partner with our technology leaders: Act as a trusted technical advisor to the CTO and senior Product and Technology leaders, bringing an independent, hands-on perspective to complex technical decisions and communicating trade-offs clearly.
About you
- You bring extensive experience designing and building large-scale software systems with proven Staff or Principal-level impact within a scaled consumer technology, SaaS or fintech environment
- You're still deeply hands-on. You're comfortable writing and reviewing production code, prototyping solutions and working across the stack when needed
- You have broad experience across client-facing technology, which may include web, native mobile, APIs, distributed back-end services, data stores and real-time systems
- You understand what it takes to build real-time, highly available products and keep them fast and reliable when demand peaks
- You have practical production experience with AI, including AI-assisted engineering in your own work, LLM APIs, agentic frameworks and evaluation
- You've successfully influenced technical direction across multiple teams without relying on direct authority, building trust through strong communication, technical judgement and collaboration
- You've led significant migrations or re-architecture initiatives across live systems and understand how to deliver change without disrupting clients
- You combine strong technical judgement with product thinking, understanding the connection between client needs, technology decisions and business outcomes
- You communicate complex technical decisions clearly to engineers, executives and non-technical stakeholders and enjoy mentoring other senior engineers
- Experience across trading platforms, brokerage, crypto, capital markets or payments would be valuable but isn't essential.
