Director of Engineering

Director of Platform Engineering | £150,000–£160,000 | Fully Remote (UK) I'm working with a high-growth, established SaaS organisation looking to appoint a Director of Platform Engineering to lead a significant engineering function and play a key role in its next phase of growth. This is a senior leadership opportunity for someone who combines strong technical credibility with commercial awareness, organisational leadership and a track record of delivering engineering transformation at scale. The Opportunity Working closely with the VP of Platform, you'll take responsibility for the day-to-day leadership of a platform engineering function, overseeing approximately 15 engineers through an established management structure. Your focus will include: - Leading and developing engineering managers across software engineering, platform engineering and infrastructure. - Translating platform strategy into clear delivery plans, improving engineering performance, accountability and predictability. - Driving improvements in developer experience, internal tooling, CI/CD and platform capabilities. - Overseeing significant AWS infrastructure investment, balancing technical priorities with commercial objectives. - Working closely with senior product and engineering stakeholders to ensure platform capabilities support business growth. - Providing architectural direction and technical leadership across a complex, high-traffic SaaS environment. What We're Looking For - Proven Director/Head of Engineering experience, leading multiple engineering teams and managers. - Leadership experience spanning both software engineering and infrastructure/platform engineering. - Experience operating large-scale, customer-facing SaaS platforms with millions of users and significant transaction volumes. - Strong AWS expertise, including ownership of substantial cloud infrastructure budgets. - Experience improving engineering delivery, organisational structures and developer productivity. - Commercial awareness and the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
