Description
When the wind drops off the Atlantic, Ireland leans on a handful of gas-fired plants to keep the grid stable. This is one of them.
⠀
It's a 400MW combined-cycle station in east Galway, and the owner wants someone to take over maintenance, engineering and reliability for the whole site.
⠀
What's in it for you
⠀
You'd own it. The maintenance strategy, the outage plan, the budget and the mechanical, E&I and technician team all sit with you, reporting into site leadership.
⠀
There's a new plant coming. Consent is already in place for an OCGT alongside the existing station, and whoever's in this seat will have a real say in how it's built, maintained and staffed. That's rare at this level.
⠀
The owner is the UK & Ireland arm of the second-largest gas-to-power operator in Europe. It has more than 20 flexible gas, biomass and battery sites, over 14GW of capacity, and two of Europe's biggest energy groups as joint owners.
⠀
On top of the base and bonus, there's a pension, private health cover and an on-call allowance.
⠀
The honest bit
⠀
It's a rural site and fully site-based, so you'll need a car. Galway city, Ballinasloe and Athlone are an easy drive, and Limerick is doable. You'll also be on the on-call rota, which is what the allowance is for.
⠀
What you'd be doing
⠀
Keeping a 400MW CCGT available, reliable and safe. In practice that means planning and running major outages, managing the service agreements and contractors, setting the maintenance and reliability strategy, owning the budget and keeping the site compliant on PSSR and process safety.
⠀
What you'll need
⠀
- An engineering degree, mechanical, electrical or similar
- Around 7 to 10 years in power generation or heavy process plant, including time leading a mixed maintenance and engineering team
- Major outages you've planned and delivered, with contractors to manage through them
- A maintenance budget you've owned
⠀
You don't need to be running a CCGT already. This could just as easily suit:
⠀
- A deputy or lead engineer at a gas, EfW or biomass plant who's ready for the top job
- An OEM site service manager who wants to move to the owner's side
- A maintenance manager from refining or heavy industry who knows rotating plant and outages
⠀
How to move things along
⠀
Message me here or email w.mccaffrey@jam-talent.com. A CV that isn't fully up to date is fine.
⠀
First we'll have a confidential chat about the role and what you're after. With your OK, I'll put your CV forward with a short summary. Interviews are two-way conversations with site and HR leadership, and may include an assessment. If it goes well, I'll handle the offer, notice period and start date with you.
⠀
Everything is treated in confidence.
