Senior Cloud Engineer

Senior Cloud Engineer – AI Platform Leicester – Hybrid (3 days in the office) £70,000 – £75,000 VIQU are partnering with a leading UK retail organisation to recruit a Senior Cloud Engineer to join their AI Platform team. This is an exciting opportunity to design, build and maintain the cloud infrastructure supporting the development and deployment of AI agents and workloads across the business. The successful candidate will bring strong Azure engineering experience, alongside expertise in automation, networking and security, helping to build a scalable, secure and enterprise-ready AI platform. This is a hands-on senior role offering the opportunity to work with emerging AI technologies while providing technical leadership and mentoring junior engineers. Key Responsibilities of the Senior Cloud Engineer: • Design and maintain secure, scalable cloud infrastructure across Azure and GCP • Develop Azure foundations, landing zones and cloud governance standards • Build and manage containerised environments using AKS, Azure Container Apps and Container Registries • Develop automated infrastructure using Terraform, Ansible and Infrastructure as Code • Design and maintain Azure networking, including Virtual Networks, ExpressRoute, NSGs and Azure Firewall • Implement identity and access controls, including Entra ID, RBAC and Zero Trust security • Support AI platform capabilities, including vector databases, AI memory and MCP integrations • Implement AI security, observability, token tracing and prompt injection defences • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps • Support the transition of AI proof of concepts into secure, production-ready solutions • Act as a technical escalation point, supporting incident resolution and mentoring junior engineers Key Experience Required of the Senior Cloud Engineer: • Strong commercial experience in Azure Cloud Engineering, Platform Engineering or Cloud Infrastructure • Hands-on experience with Azure foundations, landing zones and cloud governance • Strong Terraform experience, ideally alongside Ansible and Infrastructure as Code • Experience with AKS, Kubernetes, Azure Container Apps and containerisation • Strong understanding of Azure networking, including VNets, ExpressRoute, NSGs and Firewalls • Experience with Entra ID, RBAC, cloud security and Zero Trust principles • Experience with Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipeline automation • Exposure to AI/ML infrastructure, Generative AI, AI agents or vector databases • Understanding of AI security, MCP integrations, observability and model guardrails would be advantageous • Exposure to GCP alongside Azure would be beneficial • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience mentoring junior engineers Apply now to the Senior Cloud Engineer role speak with VIQU IT in confidence, or reach out to Fay Toomey via the VIQU IT website.
