Description
Senior Security Engineer – Cloud & Data Platforms
Berlin, Germany | Hybrid Working (2 days per week)
We're partnering with an international organisation investing significantly in its cloud engineering and technology capabilities. As part of this investment, we're looking for a Senior Security Engineer to take ownership of security design and implementation across complex cloud environments, with a particular focus on securing modern data platforms, strengthening engineering practices and embedding security throughout the development lifecycle.
This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys combining hands-on security engineering with architecture and design, working closely with technical teams to develop practical security solutions rather than operating purely within a traditional governance or compliance function.
The Opportunity
You'll play a key role in designing and implementing security solutions across cloud infrastructure and modern data platforms, working closely with engineering teams to strengthen security controls, automate security processes and embed secure practices throughout the development lifecycle.
This is a hands-on engineering position where you'll contribute to technical design, infrastructure automation and security tooling, while helping shape the standards and approaches used across the wider engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement security controls across cloud infrastructure and data platforms.
- Develop security blueprints, technical standards and engineering best practices.
- Establish effective data protection controls, including Data Loss Prevention (DLP), access management and data classification.
- Embed security into CI/CD pipelines, development workflows and deployment processes.
- Identify security vulnerabilities and implement appropriate preventative and remediation controls.
- Support secure coding practices, security testing and threat modelling.
- Work closely with engineers, architects and wider security teams to ensure security is built into solutions from the outset.
- Support security monitoring, threat detection and continuous improvement across cloud environments.
- Automate security configurations and processes to improve consistency, scalability and efficiency.
What We're Looking For
- Strong background in Security Engineering, Cloud Security or Platform Security, ideally within complex enterprise environments.
- Experience designing and implementing technical security controls, rather than focusing solely on governance, compliance or policy.
- Good understanding of data security, DLP, data classification and protecting sensitive information.
- Experience securing cloud environments, ideally AWS, Azure or GCP.
- Knowledge of DevSecOps, CI/CD security, secure coding and application security principles.
- Strong programming or scripting experience, alongside practical knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), automation and integrating security tools into engineering workflows.
- Understanding of security monitoring, vulnerability management and threat detection within cloud environments.
- Experience working with modern data platforms, cloud-native infrastructure or distributed systems.
- Ability to translate security requirements into practical engineering solutions.
- Strong communication skills and confidence working directly with technical stakeholders.
Experience within financial services or another highly regulated industry would be beneficial, although it's not essential.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
- Shape security from the outset – influence how security is designed and embedded into modern technology environments.
- Engineering-focused environment – work directly alongside the teams building and operating the technology.
- Technical ownership – contribute to architecture, security standards and hands-on implementation.
- Modern technology landscape – work across cloud infrastructure, data engineering and secure development practices.
- Long-term investment – join a business making significant investments in its technology capabilities.
If you're a Security Engineer who enjoys getting involved in the technical detail, influencing architecture and building security into modern engineering environments, I'd be keen to speak with you. Apply directly or get in touch for a confidential discussion.
