Description
Staff Engineer, Digital Infrastructure
London (on-site) | Defence technology | Permanent
Strativ are working with an innovative defence technology company in London that are building advanced autonomous systems.
We are looking for a Digital Infrastructure Engineer to join the team and this is a hands-on infrastructure role at the point where AI software meets secure and specialised environments.
The role
You’ll build and run the digital infrastructure that supports AI training and development, including in isolated and tightly controlled environments where cloud-native shortcuts don’t apply. You’ll own how software, updates and configuration get delivered across network boundaries, and how new hardware and tooling are brought into the environment.
This is a role for someone who likes solving the awkward problems: working out how to keep a system reliable, patched and observable when you can’t simply reach out to the internet.
What you’ll be doing
- Designing, building and operating Kubernetes-based infrastructure for AI training and supporting applications
- Delivering and maintaining software in isolated or air-gapped environments
- Automating configuration and deployment using tools such as Ansible, Puppet or Chef
- Supporting Python and C++ applications in production-style environments
- Troubleshooting complex issues across Linux, networking and distributed systems
- Onboarding new hardware and tooling, and setting the standards others follow
- Working closely with engineering teams to make their infrastructure faster and more reliable
Skills Required:
- 7+ years of relevant experience (or 6+ with a Master’s, or 4+ with a PhD)
- 3+ years of hands-on Kubernetes and container orchestration
- Strong Linux and networking fundamentals
- Experience with automation and configuration management tooling (Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
- Experience supporting Python and/or C++ applications
- A track record of debugging distributed systems in deployed environments
- Comfort being on-site in London
Desirable:
- Experience delivering software into air-gapped, classified or otherwise restricted environments
- Exposure to HPC, GPU or ML training infrastructure
- Experience in defence, government or other regulated sectors
- Existing UK security clearance, or eligibility to obtain one
