Description
Most SREs spend their days putting out fires. This role is about building the thing that stops them starting.
An AI-focused hedge fund is hiring a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to design and run the Kubernetes platform its quants and engineers use every single day. The hiring manager put it simply: “you’ll have real ownership over what you build here.”
They meant it. Infrastructure is the product, and the internal Engineering and Quant teams are your customers. You’ll build the self-service tools that let dev teams move fast at the platform layer without queuing up behind you. You’ll also sit right at the heart of how the fund is scaling with AI, so it needs to be part of how you already work, every day.
Everything runs on-prem, so you’ll be close to the metal. A big part of the job is clearing out tech debt: finding the manual, fragile and repetitive work and automating it away for good, while keeping production systems quick and reliable. The culture is flat and practical. Good ideas get built, not buried in meetings.
What you’ll need:
- Strong coding in Python or Go. You write real tooling, not just scripts.
- Deep Kubernetes experience. You’ve built, owned and run clusters yourself, not just deployed onto them. OpenShift is a bonus.
- Solid Infrastructure as Code, with Terraform, Ansible or similar.
- Strong Linux and production systems knowledge.
- You use AI tools daily in your engineering work.
The details:
- Zone 1, five days on-site to start, dropping to four after probation.
- Up to £150,000 plus a strong bonus, with breakfast and lunch covered.
