Description
Senior Environment Artist (Stylized Games | Real-Time)
Location: Remote | International Team
Employment: Full-Time / Long-Term
Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced Senior Environment Artist with exceptional artistic taste and a passion for creating beautiful, immersive, and memorable game worlds.
We believe great environments are more than collections of well-crafted assets. Every space should communicate mood, atmosphere, and purpose, guiding players naturally through environments that feel visually distinctive and alive.
As part of our co-development team, you will create high-quality environments and world-building assets, working closely with Environment Leads, Art Directors, Level Designers, and Technical Artists.
This is a senior, hands-on role for someone who understands the balance between artistic excellence, environmental storytelling, gameplay readability, and real-time performance.
Key Responsibilities
Environment Art & World Building
-
Create high-quality stylized environments, architectural elements, terrain, props, and environmental assets.
-
Translate concept art and visual references into visually compelling, production-ready environments.
-
Develop cohesive environments with strong composition, color, shape language, and atmospheric storytelling.
-
Establish visual hierarchy and environmental details that support player exploration and immersion.
-
Build modular asset sets and reusable environment systems that maintain consistency across locations.
Real-Time Environment Production
-
Develop optimized environment assets from initial blockout through final in-engine implementation.
-
Work with materials, shaders, lighting, and set dressing to achieve the intended visual quality.
-
Create efficient UV layouts, textures, LODs, and modular geometry for real-time performance.
-
Collaborate with Level Designers to ensure environments support gameplay flow, navigation, and readability.
-
Identify and resolve artistic or technical issues directly in-engine.
Collaboration & Quality
-
Work closely with Art Directors, Concept Artists, Level Designers, Lighting Artists, and Technical Artists.
-
Participate in environment reviews and help establish consistent quality standards.
-
Provide constructive feedback and support less experienced artists when needed.
-
Proactively identify opportunities to improve artistic workflows, asset reuse, and production efficiency.
Requirements
-
5+ years of professional experience as an Environment Artist in game development.
-
Experience contributing to commercially released game productions.
-
Exceptional portfolio demonstrating strong environment composition, visual storytelling, and artistic quality.
-
Strong proficiency in 3D modeling, UV mapping, texturing, and material creation.
-
Excellent understanding of shape language, color, lighting, scale, and environmental composition.
-
Experience creating modular environment assets and assembling complete playable scenes.
-
Proficiency in Blender, Maya, Substance 3D tools, or equivalent software.
-
Experience working with Unity3D, Unreal Engine, or comparable real-time engines.
-
Strong understanding of optimization, material budgets, geometry complexity, and real-time performance.
-
Ability to maintain visual consistency while working within technical and gameplay requirements.
-
Strong communication skills and fluency in English.
Bonus Skills
-
Experience with stylized mobile game environments.
-
Familiarity with voxel-inspired, simplified, or highly stylized aesthetics.
-
Experience with procedural environment workflows, Houdini, or terrain generation.
-
Strong understanding of foliage, vegetation, and biome creation.
-
Experience with lighting, atmosphere, and shader development.
-
Previous experience working in a co-development environment.
What We Offer
-
Opportunity to create memorable environments for game development and co-development projects.
-
High artistic ownership and meaningful influence over world-building quality.
-
Collaboration with experienced artists, Level Designers, and technical specialists.
-
Remote-friendly international working environment.
-
Competitive compensation and flexible contract options.
-
Long-term collaboration and opportunities for professional growth.
-
Annual Beffio team retreats and a supportive studio culture.
