Azure Tech Lead

Azure Tech Lead Know how to build Azure platforms at enterprise scale, and ready to lead the engineering behind them? We’re looking for an experienced Azure Tech Lead to design, build and operate secure, resilient cloud platforms that support some of the most demanding data, analytics and AI workloads. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role for someone with strong enterprise Azure infrastructure experience who can take ownership of complex cloud initiatives, set technical direction and navigate large-scale stakeholder environments with confidence. You’ll bridge cloud engineering, architecture, security and data platform teams, ensuring the Azure foundations behind modern analytics and AI services are secure, automated, reliable and ready to scale. What you’ll be doing - Own the technical design and operational health of Azure platform services, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, security and governance standards. - Design and provision repeatable Azure environments using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automated deployment pipelines. - Engineer cloud foundations supporting Azure Data Lake Storage, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Azure SQL and related data services. - Implement enterprise security and resilience patterns across private connectivity, managed identities, secrets management, encryption, backup and disaster recovery. - Monitor and optimise reliability, performance, capacity and cloud cost, leading troubleshooting and root-cause analysis when complex issues arise. - Lead cloud-platform workstreams end to end, managing technical risks, dependencies, operational readiness and successful transition into production. - Define and champion cloud engineering, automation and operational standards that improve consistency, reliability, maintainability and cost efficiency. - Provide technical leadership and coaching to engineers, helping raise capability and engineering quality across the team. - Work closely with architects, security specialists, application and data teams, and client stakeholders to ensure cloud-platform capabilities support wider business outcomes. What we’re looking for: You’ll bring: - Significant hands-on enterprise Azure infrastructure and cloud engineering experience across networking, compute, storage, identity and governance. - A track record of successfully leading Azure initiatives or technical workstreams within large, complex organisations. - Strong Infrastructure as Code and automation experience using Terraform or Bicep, alongside Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions. - Scripting and automation capability with PowerShell or Python. - Working knowledge of Azure data services and the infrastructure, security, performance and resilience requirements of enterprise analytical platforms. - Strong understanding of enterprise security architecture, resilience engineering, observability, governance and cloud financial management. - The ability to influence senior stakeholders, manage competing technical priorities and build credibility across complex enterprise environments. - Experience leading and coaching cloud engineers while setting high standards for technical quality and operational excellence. - Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305) certification. Even better if you have experience with: - Azure Landing Zones - Enterprise Azure networking - Azure security architecture - FinOps and cloud cost optimisation - Infrastructure as Code at scale - Platform engineering methodologies - Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) - Microsoft Azure AI services - GitHub Enterprise - Microsoft Purview - Additional relevant Microsoft Azure architecture certifications Why this role?
