Description

Relay is fundamentally reshaping how goods move in an online era. Backed by Europe’s largest-ever logistics Series A ($35M) led by deep-tech investors Plural, and a recently closed Series B ($95M), Relay is scaling faster than 99% of venture-backed startups. We're assembling the most talent-dense team the logistics industry has ever seen Relay’s Mission is to free commerce from friction. Today, high delivery costs act as a hidden tax on e-commerce, quietly shaping what can be sold online and limiting who can participate. We envision a world where more goods move more freely between more people, making the online shopping experience seamless and accessible to everyone. THE TEAM • ~160 people, around half in engineering, product and data • 45+ advanced degrees across computer science, mathematics and operations research • Thousands of data points captured, calculated, analysed and predicted for every single parcel we handle • An intellectually vibrant culture of first‑principles thinking, tight feedback loops and relentless experimentation The opportunity We are looking for a Head of Capital to run how Relay raises equity and works with its investors: the next round and the ones after it, from the investor map to the close, next to the CEO. Relay is a technology enabled parcel carrier - we deliver parcels from retailers to end customers but do it much more efficiently than incumbents. This efficiency has propelled us into one of the fastest growing companies in Europe - we have grown over 40x in the last 18 months. The capital Relay raises decides how fast the network grows and what it can promise retailers. Raising it well, from the right investors, on terms we understand, is a job in its own right. About the role The capital we raise next decides how fast the network grows and what it can promise retailers. Our next round is planned for Q2/Q3 2027. It is for growth, from growth-stage investors, and it will be won on evidence. Today a raise runs through the CEO and the CFO alongside their day jobs. It works. It is however, not a system. You will be the person who makes it one. You will not just be the person who holds and runs the Series C transaction, but also be the Head of the Office that will build the systems to raise multiple rounds of capital in the future. Between rounds you keep the map, the materials and the investors warm, so each raise starts from a record, not a blank page. Few roles let you own how a growing company raises the capital it runs on, from the inside, round after round. Who you work with - CEO: you report here. The CEO pitches and takes the decisions on a round. - CFO: you work together daily. The CFO owns the budget, the forecast, internal finance and any debt. You own equity, the investors behind it, and the investor-facing model built from the CFO's numbers — never a second set. - Co-founder and the Extended Leadership Team: the proof a round needs. - External & Internal Counsel: terms and the close. - Board: updates between rounds and approval on the round. What you'll do Running the transaction with the CEO & CFO 1. Build the investor map: which funds, which partner at each, why each fits us, in what order we go, and the warm path to each. 2. The process start to close: the timeline, outreach, a brief before every meeting and notes after, investor questions answered within a day, and diligence. 3. Put term sheets side by side and show what each costs in the round after. Draw up illustrative analysis and counsel the CEO on the right strategy. 4. Hold the story in one version, drafted with the CEO. The same claims and numbers across the deck, the model and the data room. 5. Own the investor-facing model: scenarios, unit economics and use of funds. Every number ties to one the CFO has signed. Between rounds 1. Refresh the deck, the KPI pack and the data room every quarter. 2. Write investor and board updates. Answer existing investors' questions. Track what we promised them. 3. Build relationships with investors so you can source your own relationships for future rounds 4. Read the market: who invests at our stage, on what terms, and what comparable companies showed when they raised. Put what Relay must show, and by when, to the leadership team in writing. Across both 1. Agree in writing with each function what it produces for a raise and by when. Flag the proof the story needs a quarter early, not the week before. 2. Keep the record: what each investor asked, what we answered, what we promised and what we learned. By the end of your first six months - An investor map with a reason beside every name. - One version of the story across the deck, the model and the data room. - A data room refreshed every quarter, never rebuilt. - A written agreement with each function on what it produces for a raise. - A clear line of sight to a closed round from a ranked list of investors. What we're looking for You have run a growth-stage equity round from inside a company, or worked on several from the investing side. You want to own the process, with a view to owning the pitch and fundraising function in the future as the company scales. We don't ask for a set number of years or a particular firm on your CV. We ask for evidence. Be ready to walk us through specific rounds and your part in them. Required - Round experience: you ran an equity round from inside a company, or worked on several as an investor. You can show the map you built, the order you ran it in and what you would change. - Investor writing: you turn the story a founder tells in a room into a page an investor reads alone. Short, plain, in a founder's voice, with numbers that held under diligence. - Modelling: you built an investor model from a company's internal forecast and defended it in diligence. - Terms: you can put two term sheets side by side and say what each costs in the round after. - Data rooms: you built one that answered questions before they were asked. You can name the question you missed. - Getting work from other teams: you got inputs from teams that did not report to you, on dates agreed in writing. You can say what arrived late and what you did about it. - Market knowledge: you know which funds invest at our stage and which partner leads, or can build that picture in weeks and show your working. - Handling no: investors have told you no. You kept the record of why and used it the next time. Nice to have - Experience in logistics, delivery, marketplaces or another operations-heavy business. - Time at a growth-stage fund, a tech-focused bank or a private-capital adviser before going in-house. - Investor relations between rounds at a private company. The hard parts - The CEO pitches. You are the investors' contact for everything around the room. You are judged on how the round runs, not on the pitch. - The numbers come from the CFO. The proof comes from teams that do not report to you. - The market sets the timing, not us. - Investors will say no, often. The record has to stay straight. - The job keeps going after the close: the map, the materials in quiet quarters and the relationships between rounds. We will agree with you what support you need to do that well. How we hire 1. Talent Acquisition, 45 minutes: the job as it is, a round you ran or worked on, and how you work. 2. An interview with our VP International: 45 minutes: how you work, the evidence and across your whole career 3. The case, about a day on your own time 4. Case review, 75 minutes, with the CEO and CFO: you walk us through it, re-plan live when we change a condition, and take two questions the case cannot reach . 5. References and a decision within a week. An offer comes in a conversation. Tell us at any stage if you need adjustments. Who Thrives at Relay? - Aim with Precision: You define problems clearly and measure your impact meticulously. - Play to Win: You chase bold bets, tackle the hard stuff, and view constraints as fuel, not friction. - 1% Better Every Day: You believe that small, consistent improvements lead to exponential growth. You move quickly, deliver results, and learn from every experience. - All In, All the Time: You show up and step up. You take ownership from start to finish and do what it takes to deliver when it counts. - People-Powered Greatness: You invest in your teammates. You give and receive feedback with care and candour. You build trust through high standards and shared success. - Grow the Whole Pie: You seek out win-win solutions for merchants, couriers, and our customers, because when they thrive, so do we. If these resonate, and you combine strong technical fundamentals with entrepreneurial drive, let’s connect. Relay is an equal-opportunity employer committed to diversity, inclusion, and fostering a workplace where everyone thrives.
